The team is off to a good start defeating Cesar Chavez, Dinuba, and Lindsay in all of their recent matches. With a scores of 8-1 against Cesar Chavez, 7-2 against Dinuba, and 8-1 against Lindsay.

''We have a strong team this year and we are up against new schools that I believe we can have successful wins over. This is our year to shine and I believe we have the potential to beat any team if we set our minds to it," said senior Crystal Ruiz.

Granite Hills girls tennis has always had a successful program. However, this year, they will have a lot more room and opportunities to show other schools what they are all about.

Key players are the seven returning seniors headed by team captains Lisa Yang and Crystal Ruiz. Other returning varsity players include: seniors Berenice Contreras, Brandy Ibarra, Sophia Martinez, Andrea Carranza, and Mayra Puente.

With all of them having prior varsity experience, it can be predicted that they will have great success this season.

"On paper I think we have to be favored to win the ESL. Of course we still have to go out and play and win our matches to prove it," said varsity coach Randy Smee.

Making the move from the large East Yosemite League to the smaller East Sequoia League will definitely play to the Grizzlies advantage. However, just like in any other sport, no match will be handed over easily.

Key match-ups will be Strathmore High School and Sierra Pacific High School. These schools are also believed to have their own set of talented players this season.

So far, the Lady Grizzlies continue to stay undefeated after having played 3 matches. The next match will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 4pm against Woodlake High School.
