The 2012 football season is soon coming to a close.
With seven games already completed, there are only three opportunities for the Grizzlies to get a win. Since the playoffs are out of the picture the Grizzly football team will be playing for pride.
The Grizzlies faced the Lindsay Cardinals on Friday night in what was predicted to be a true battle. And with the Grizzly defense struggling all season long, it was going to be a matter of who scored the most points.
However, with key players out with injuries, it wasn’t going to be easy for the Grizzlies to keep up with a Cardinal team with a larger roster. This proved to be true when the Grizzlies went into halftime losing by a score of 21-0.
It wasn’t until the second half when the Grizzlies came alive. A 71 yard keeper by the Quarterback, Fernando Gonzalez, helped set up a rushing touchdown by the fullback, Peter Zamarripa, 3 plays later. Zamarripa blasted his way through defenders to bring the score to 21-6.
After the Cardinals were able to answer with a touchdown of their own, the score was 28-6. However, the Grizzlies were still not willing to throw in the towel.
The Grizzlies drove the ball down the field on their ensuing drive with ease, something they hadn’t done all night. The Grizzlies capitalized with a 15 yard scoring run by the Quarterback, Fernando Gonzalez. This brought the score down to 28-12.
However, the Grizzly defense was not able to hold and the Cardinals score one last touchdown to make the score 35-12. The Grizzlies then struggled on offense to really get the ball rolling again.
It wasn’t until their final drive in the fourth quarter that the Grizzly offense started clicking again. Starting from their own 25 the Grizzlies blasted the ball down the field and capitalizing with a 5 yard touchdown pass from Gonzalez to sophomore wide receiver, Fernando Rodriguez, with 9.8 seconds left in the game.
Even though the momentum had completely shifted towards the Grizzlies in the second half, there just wasn’t enough time. The Cardinals pulled away with a 35-18 victory over the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies now face a short week to prepare for their game against Sierra Pacific on Thursday night. The Grizzlies will be facing a team in which they will be evenly matched, however, this will still not be an easy game with players still out. The Grizzlies are determined to find the first win they have been longing for. Be prepared to see an entirely different Grizzly team this Thursday night in a game you definitely won’t want to miss!
