Last night the U.S Consulate in Benghazi, Libya was attacked by angry rioters protesting a film that mocked Islam.

In the attacks, Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others were killed when the protestors attacked the convoy fleeing the consulate.

In another related attack, protesters attacked the U.S Embassy in Cairo, Egypt and tore down the American flag and replaced the American flag with Islamic inscriptions.

President Obama called the attacks on American diplomatic staff “outrageous.”Libyan Prime Minister Abdurrahim el-Keib apologized for “the cowardly attack.”

As a result of these attacks, American security for diplomatic missions and staff abroad has been increased.

This is the first time since 1979 that an American diplomat has been killed.
