Do you plan on pursuing a bright future?
The Pre Scholastic Aptitude Test, Scholastic Aptitude Test, and American College Test are coming up very soon, which means teachers and counselors are encouraging students to sign up for these important tests.
Senior, Maria Corona told the Gazette, “I took the PSATs my sophomore year and I took the SATs my junior year. I want to take the SATs as many times as I can up until college deadlines.”
The PSAT will be held on Oct. 17 on Granite Hills’ campus. The PSAT is $14 due at the activity window and the deadline to register is Oct. 5. The test will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the Granite Hills’ cafeteria. The guidance department will answer any questions parents and students may have about the tests.
There is also a student guide and a practice PSAT booklet. This guide includes practice questions, information on the College Board to plan students’ futures, and tips to help students become better test takers.
“I’m glad they have the PSATs and the practice book available. Taking the SAT is scary so I need all the help I can get. Passing and scoring really high is important to me so you will see me in that testing room for the PSAT for sure,” said Sierra Lopez, a junior at Granite Hills who is planning on taking the PSAT.
The deadline for the ACT test is Nov. 2. The cost is $50.50 and should be paid at the activity window. The next available test date is Dec. 8 at Porterville High School. There are later test dates for the ACT and these dates are posted on CollegeBoard.com.
The SAT is $50 due by Oct. 4 to register. You can either register online at CollegeBoard.com or visit the guidance department. The test will be given on Nov. 3 at Monache High School; subject tests will be given at Monache will cost $70.
“I think the PSAT is important especially for freshmen and sophomores because they can find out what their projected SAT score will be and it gives them three to study and improve their vocabulary and reading skills,” stated Evan Hackett, an English teacher at Granite Hills.
If students do not feel prepared to take these important tests, they are encouraged to visit the College Board website to get practice questions and studying tips. Students may also talk to counselors to see if they qualify for fee waivers.

This is a great article. It has informed me on how much the SAT and the ACT will cost. I took the PSAT and I now know what I need to prepare for the SAT in the spring.

I think it's awesome that the teachers are really helping the students out by making the deadlines noticed, and making the kids see that there are a lot of opportunities out there to help you with your future! Great job, Ali! :))
