The Grizzlies are back for the new school year! We have new ‘cubbies,’ new teachers, and a new Associated Student Body advisor all ready to kick this year off with a bang!

“The new ASB teacher did really well on our first rally,” said senior Zack Ojinaga, “I really enjoyed the drum line.”

Thursday, Aug 16, marked the first rally of the new school year. Last year, ASB’s advisor Natasha Efseaff, who is also a social science teacher, stepped down and handed off the job to new ASB advisor, Kelsey Simpson, a former student at Granite.

“I liked it and for the first rally, it was really organized,” said junior Kassarah Bivens, “If the ASB teacher can put the rally together like that in the amount of time she had, I think she’ll be a good ASB teacher.”

Simpson has already made quite an impression at Granite with the rally she and her students put together.

“To be honest, I think that the new ASB teacher is going to make great changes to the rally,” Julia Navarrete, “It should be great.”

Not only did the Grizzlies have their first rally, but Granite also had its first dance of the year on Friday, Aug 17.

“There weren’t a lot of people, but I still had fun with my group of friends,” said junior Taylor Merritt.

The dance was located on the pyramid and DJ Swift was invited to play the music for Granite.

“I had a lot of fun,” said senior Hannah Vehrs, “I just wish more people would have shown up. The DJ was great, but if more people came, it would have been even better.”
