FFA retreats to baseball game

“The three things in life that are essential: love, respect, and baseball,” said past Monache High School baseball player, Tyler Brock Curry, who recently passed away.
Hundreds of Future Farmers of America members watched as the Los Angeles Dodgers swept the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, Sept. 30. The Grizzly officers arrived at Granite Hills High School at 7:30 a.m. and left for Los Angeles at 8:00 a.m. As a retreat, FFA advisor, Audrey Collar and student parent, Tammy Rice, helped transport the six FFA officers to the LA Dodger stadium. It took them three hours to arrive to at Chavez Ravine, home of the Dodgers. The officers paid $20 for their baseball ticket and an all you can eat pass. The FFA members sat all together in the stadium near left field.
“Waking up at 6:30 wasn’t very fun, but I love baseball, so it was worth it,” said Savannah Pipkin, the current FFA secretary.
FFA members from different counties all over California filled the stadium.
“This was my first major league baseball game; it was tons of fun. I don’t usually watch baseball, but I was getting so into this game and even yelling at the players,” said Granite Hills FFA treasurer, Sierra Lopez.
Fans were able to purchase Dodgers items such as t-shirts, foam fingers, lanyards, bracelets, and hats.
“I bought a Dodgers hat and a Furcal t-shirt,” said Granite Hills FFA president, Madison Rice.
The two teams went nine innings, with the Rockies falling short to the Dodgers: 7-1.
“The game seemed like it took forever, but maybe it felt like that because it was so hot,” said Jose Solis, the current FFA sentinel.
The game started at 1:10 p.m. and ended at 4:45 p.m.
“My favorite part of the game was when our FFA chapter started the wave and the whole Dodger stadium participated and the wave went around seven times,” said Rice.
After the game, the officers stopped and ate dinner at a nearby In-N-Out. The group left at approximately 6:00 p.m. and drove back to Granite Hills.
