Granite Hills High School's choir class recently traveled to the mountains of Springville for their annual choir retreat.
They attended the Science and Conservation camp (SCICON) for a fun weekend out of the city.
“The choir retreat was really great and amazing,” said senior Winston Thao, “This year was exciting since we practically had all new members come and experience the choir retreat for the first time.”
It is an exclusive trip, only available to certain students. Students have to be in the higher level classes, concert and chamber choir too have the opportunity to attend.
During the two days spent at SCICON, the choir students created unforgettable bonds, which was the main point of the retreat. The goal is to get students out of their comfort zones and unite as one family.
Besides singing their hearts out, the students attend several activities set by the choir council. The purposes of the activities are to get the students to share who they are and to get to know people. For some students, this is an entirely new experience.
"Being my first year coming to the choir retreat is just amazing,” said senior Mayra Zendejas, “Everyone I did not talk to turned out to be great."
Returning members have already been through the retreat experience; they reminisce about their past time being there.
"It was fun and interesting; the people there were really friendly,” said senior Devyn Zavala, “The activities we had done really brought every one of us together a little bit closer as a family.”
